Smart thermostats are a newer technology that was developed to help us conserve energy and save money. The term  "Smart thermostats" refers to devices like Wi-Fi thermostats and programmable thermostats. They can connect to the internet, allowing you to adjust your home's temperature through any of your smart devices. Smart thermostats can record the internal and external temperatures, let you know how long the Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) system was running, and even let you know if you need to change your furnace's filter. You can view this information through any device you use in your home.

In today’s environment, its important for us to do what we can to conserve energy. Replacing your thermostats with Smart Thermostats can reduce the energy usage at home. The smart technology can learn to cool or heat your home. They can schedule the temperature to rise and lower the temperature to keep it at the comfortable temperature saving energy and money. Besides being able to sense if the home is occupied, a smart thermostat can also be used by voice-controlled assistants like Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant. Smart thermostats use algorithms to create a pattern to heat and cool the home. However, it does take time for the thermostat to make this pattern.

Smart thermostats have been proven to provide optimal comfort and reduce energy consumption. You can also buy extra sensors for any room you spend most of your time in. Smart thermostats can heat the rooms remotely or by timers set by the thermostat or your device.

If you are considering upgrading your thermostat, there are a few things to consider. Smart thermostats come in different models and styles. Most models are compatible with today's HVAC systems, but some are not. Heating systems like baseboard heaters, oil burners, and some furnaces may need an adaptor to upgrade to Smart Thermostats. When you switch out the old thermostat, you may find some thick wiring due to the electricity running through it. This will indicate that your furnace will not be compatible to upgrade without an adaptor.

If you are unaware if your furnace is able to upgrade with or without an adaptor, you can always call a professional for help.
